MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES 13th JUNE 2019
The President, Margaret Boswell welcomed 42 members to the June meeting.
She said how proud we should be of our member, Jo Simpson, who beautifully played the piano for Jerusalem and other music at the Bournemouth NFWI Annual Meeting.
Jenni Fleming was thanked for the floral arrangement and the Whist, Poetry and Gardening groups for managing the evening's refreshments.
Thanks was given to those who helped serve refreshments at the Choral Society Concert on 8th July when £36.83 was donated by those who enjoyed the tea and cakes (provided by the Society).
Jenny Samways, her husband and Rosemary Lander were thanked for their input to the birthday party.
THE RESUMÉ OF MINUTES OF MAY MEETING was read.
MATTERS ARISING
a. Annual Meeting at Poole in October. The Singers have offered to perform before the meeting and are pleased to announce that their offer has been accepted by the Board of Trustees, DFWI.
b. Interest group photos are completed
c. The County Quiz July 31st at 2pm. All are welcome and only those who wish to enter the County Quiz need to submit their answers. Others please come along for a fun afternoon with tea and cake.
d. Ann Campbell's excellent photos of the birthday party were displayed and members were invited to place orders.
e. Members were informed that the drinks for the birthday party cost less than £20 and the spirits were donated. Some items were over catered. Sale of cheeses at the last Coffee Morning raised £14.75 and the remaining items were offered for sale at the meeting making £10.50.

a. Volunteers needed for Camp Bestival on 26th July.
b. Baking needed for Bestival .
RESOLUTIONS AT NFWI Both resolutions were passed. Our Link delegate intends to give her report at the Chesil Bank Tea Party on 17th June. Elaine Pendered will report back at next meeting.
TREASURER'S REPORT
May 2019: Income: £1,611.70; Expenditure: ££431; Bank Balance: £27,369.73
SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Hall Management. Ann Pettifer gave a very comprehensive report on the need for new stage lighting and presented the estimates for the required work. The members were asked to vote for the proposal that the works be carried out and this was carried unanimously.
b. Coffee Morning report. Margaret reported on a successful Coffee Morning in June although helpers were 'thin on the ground'. She requested volunteers for the August Coffee as it was anticipated that some members may be on holiday or entertaining visitors!
INTEREST GROUP REPORTS
a. NETBALL. Ann Pettifer described the current situation regarding Netball at Redlands and invited anyone interested in playing, to contact her.
b. CRAFT. Ann Stagles reported good attendance at the Friday afternoon meetings. The group has received a donation of three bin bags of knitting wool and some tapestry wool from Chrissie Mann of the Sunday Church.
Members donating wool etc. asked to put name donation and place in yellow box provided in the hall.
c. GARDENING. Ann Stagles reported that the bamboo has been cleared. The Roses are prolific and members encouraged to pick and enjoy them.
d. CATERING FOR CHORAL CONCERTS. Future concerts: 9th November and 14th December at St. John's, Greenhill.
28th March 2020 at St. Paul's, Abbotsbury Road and 13th June at All Saints School. Anyone wishing to help please contact Ann Stagles or Margaret Boswell.
e. WHIST. Jenni Fleming gave an insight into to the Whist Group Meetings and invited more members to join in the experience. A comment from the floor suggested a 'learner's evening'. Anyone new to whist should come along to a meeting where they would be gently introduced to the game with plenty of help and encouragement.
f. June Brock reported that Keep Fit will finish for the summer at the end of June and re-start on 4th September.
SUGGESTION BOX. From Eve Reeves requesting that the oven be serviced. This had been discussed by the committee and the conclusion reached that the oven was suitable for warming plates and (e.g.) sausage rolls but not for actual cooking. As none currently takes place it was decided to take no action. This can be reviewed should circumstances change.

a. The Speaker in October will come from Elite Hairdressers, Chiswell, Portland.
b. Iris Morris expressed member's thanks to Dot Vale for making the birthday cake for the party. This reinforced the thanks given by the President on the night of the party.
The coach starting time at the Wyke Smugglers for the trip to York in August will be 7am
Notices for Coach trips to Ottery Saint Mary and Sherborne Carol Festival are on the outings/holiday Notice Board.
c. Elaine Pendered requested that all NFWI Raffle Tickets be returned to her by the end of July.
She asked for volunteers to help clean the kitchen cupboards. She has already cleaned and labelled the kitchen drawers.
New boxes have been purchased for the shed should any group need storage.
d. The President has sent a condolence card to a former member, Angela Andrews , on the death of her husband.
e. There will be 'informal' beach cleans, NOT W.I., on 29th September and 1st. January. Meet at Smallmouth 10.30 and wear protective gloves.
THE RAFFLE made £49.
