The August Ramble to Stonebarrow  was greatly enjoyed as the weather was perfect, the views beautiful and the pinic lunch made a change from the usual pub lunch.

Picture
Alethea Smith led a most enjoyable ramble from Sturminster Newton through fields, woods and along the banks of the River Stour. A visit was made to Fiddleford Manor,  a small stone manor house, probably begun about 1370 for William Latimer, Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset.  Lunch was taken at the Swan Inn , Sturminster Newton and although the food was enjoyed the service was outstandingly slow.

ANNE STAMPER’S VISIT    7th August 2013

Picture
The Institute members were very pleased to welcome Anne Stamper, the National Federation of Women’s Institute’s Archivist. Anne’s visit was planned for her to examine the scrapbooks, minute books and textiles which date back to the founding of the Institute in 1923. Also present was Heather Bartlett, the Dorset Federation of
Women’s Institute’s Archivist.
Anne was pleased to hear that scrapbooks are kept up to date and she congratulated Penny  Seaward, the Institute’s archivist. She met mother and daughter Sybil Sheldon and Kathy Verkooijen who
in 1998 compiled the 1923 - 1998 scrapbooks.
Members and guests enjoyed a wine and cheese supper prepared and presented by Jean Noble and Betty Marsh.

spring fair 2013

Picture

Jean, Angela, June and Valerie stirring the soup.

The Spring Fair took place on Thursday 21st March.  The weather was pretty atrocious and the turnout was less than hoped.  However, the lunch of homemade soup and bread with apple pie and cream to follow, was much appreciated by all who had it.  We had stalls selling cakes, books, Easter cards and handicrafts as well as a raffle, tombola and name the cuddly dog.
